Safeguarding is the protection of basic human rights and we all have the right to be healthy, happy and live free from fear and abuse, with respect and dignity. As a care worker in the child care sector, someone who is responsible for the care of children, or someone who comes into contact with children in their chosen profession, you and the company you work have a responsibility to protect those in your care and who you come into contact with.
From this course you’ll learn about key safeguarding legislation designed to minimise the abuse of children. We’ll examine the statistics so you can get a feel for the prevalence of abuse, and by the end of the course you’ll have a much deeper understanding of the principles of safeguarding children to employ in your work life.
We’ll define key terminology for safeguarding, examine the principle laws relating to safeguarding and why they’ve been put in place. You’ll learn the types of abuse often suffered by children, why they might not tell, and how to identify and report concerns. After this course you should be better equipped to protect children in your care.
