Safeguarding is the protection of basic human rights and we all have the right to be healthy, happy and live free from fear and abuse, with respect and dignity. As a care worker in the adult care sector, you and the company you work for have a responsibility to protect those in your care and ensure they are empowered to have control over how they live their lives.
From this course you’ll learn about key safeguarding legislation designed to minimise the abuse of adults in care with support needs. We’ll examine the statistics so you can get a feel for the prevalence of abuse, and by the end of the course you’ll have a much deeper understanding of principles of safeguarding adults to employ in your work.
We’ll define key terminology for safeguarding, examine the principle laws relating to safeguarding and why they’ve been put in place. You’ll learn the 10 types of abuse often suffered by vulnerable adults and how to identify and report concerns. We also take a look at your role, responsibilities and boundaries, ensuring people are encouraged to be independent and supported in making their own decisions giving informed consent. Finally, we’ll look at managing the environment to minimize the risk of abuse.
